The EU updated EN 13432 certification to stricter standards for home-compostable claims. Many cornstarch utensils labeled as biodegradable now require third-party validation of:

- 90% degradation in 6 months under real compost conditions

- Zero microplastic residues

Brands like Bio4Pack reformulated their starch-based products to comply.
